Catina Hamm is a retired U.S. Army veteran, healthcare professional, wife, and mother of seven who is running to represent North Carolina Senate District 24 with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to long-term solutions.

Raised by a single mother and deeply influenced by her grandmother’s faith-centered upbringing, Catina learned early the values of discipline, responsibility, and community. At 18, determined to create opportunities beyond what she saw around her, she joined the United States Army. It was a decision rooted in courage and the understanding that staying comfortable would cost more than stepping into the unknown.

Over the course of her military career, Catina was stationed at Fort Devens, Fort Polk, Korea, Fort Lee, and ultimately Fort Bragg, where she and her husband both retired from service. She deployed in support of Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Somalia, and Iraq. Through those experiences, she learned that leadership is not about rank. It is about accountability, teamwork, and ensuring everyone does their part.

While serving, Catina earned an associate's degree in general studies and a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in computer information systems. After retiring from the Army, she transitioned into healthcare, becoming a licensed respiratory therapist. She has worked in hospitals, pulmonary clinics, detention facilities, home medical equipment services, and currently supports patients requiring ventilators, oxygen therapy, and respiratory support.

Catina understands the reality of working families because she lives it. She has worked multiple jobs simultaneously for much of her adult life. She has navigated the public school system as a parent and has seen firsthand how state-level funding decisions directly impact classroom outcomes. She believes education funding must match student needs and that long-term infrastructure planning must replace short-term patchwork solutions.

Her decision to run for Senate District 24 was driven by one simple truth. Sitting on the sidelines is no longer enough. She believes there has been sufficient time for current leadership to deliver meaningful results, and District 24 deserves stronger advocacy for its children, seniors, middle-class families, and working residents.

Catina is focused on strengthening public education funding and accountability, raising minimum wage to reflect real-world standards, addressing teacher shortages through sustainable planning, supporting seniors who should not have to choose between medication and meals, and ensuring infrastructure investments are designed for long-term growth.

She also believes in staying accessible and accountable. Catina plans to host community listening sessions across the district and provide follow-up summaries and progress updates so residents can track what was heard and what actions are underway.

Catina does not claim to have all the answers. She commits to transparency, research, and collaboration with subject matter experts to develop solutions that serve both today’s needs and tomorrow’s realities. She believes effective leadership means being willing to ask questions, listen carefully, and make informed decisions rather than making assumptions.
